Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial title for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a former number one, has endured a difficult year, winning just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in specific - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive victory over challenger Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial trophy after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt from March of that year.

The win also means Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one various competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters together, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six championship matches, including in that event earlier this year.

The player's defensive approach and regular outbursts on court had led some to question if his capacity to play at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and perform positively, supported by an enhanced service.

He recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult opponent, taking 4 of the concluding five games to go ahead.

Both players traded break points in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden professional title, took control to force a third set.

He saved 4 initial opportunities in a close final set before Medvedev broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, he earned victory with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
